Swallowing Therapy

SEMG (Surface Electromyography)

Surface Electromyograhpy (SEMG) is a technique used to provide visual feedback to the patient during their practice of swallowing. The machine detects the electrical activity of the muscles and the patient can learn to use the muscles which have been affected in a more efficient way for a better swallow.

Surgical Intervention

Endoscopic and surgical interventions can be done by surgeons to alter the structure of the digestive tract so that food can be delivered safely to the esophagus. One such intervention technique is the dilatation of the upper part of the oesophagus called the upper oesophageal sphincter. It is suitable for patients with difficulty in relaxing the muscle for food to enter the esophagus. Another common surgical intervention involves the removal of very obvious obstructions such as cervical osteophytes etc.

Medical Intervention

Medical interventions such as Botox injections may also be recommended in some cases.
